All About Al

My name is Ally General and I am a graphic designer, marketing specialist, photographer, leader, friend, and most importantly a collaborator always looking for my next project.

I am currently the graphic designer and marketing coordinator for the Berwyn Development Corporation where I work in a small, but mighty team to create an array of print and digital marketing materials ranging from the Berwyn Community Resource Magazine (reaching ~35,000 households in the Western Suburbs), social media and website graphics, all deliverables for the numerous events we host, and more all while ensuring our marketing strategy is in line with the goals we have set for ourselves and the small businesses we promote.

Previously, I was the brand manager for a predictive analytics company. In my role as brand manager, I focused on designing marketing proposals, infographics, websites, presentations, and much more! I also worked closely in client projects all while rebranding the company and managing their social media presence.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in advertising concentrating in media presentation and design, from Ball State University in the Spring of 2022. Throughout my time studying at Ball State, I learned a tremendous amount about design while working under harsh deadlines. I was given the competitive designer position at the McKinley Avenue Agency in the fall of 2019, working my way up to become the Executive Director of Creative Services beginning in the spring of 2020. Within this short amount of time, I went from a novice designer to winning several awards including first place for Best Display Ad in the CMA Pinnacle competition. This allowed me to continue enhancing my portfolio while also learning to become an effective leader. In the summer of 2021 I began using my passion for creating to help businesses rebrand and capture their brands, like Predictive Data Lab and OAK Kitchen & Bar.

I’ve also served in two other organizations on my college campus; Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) and Her Campus. Throughout my time in AOII I had three positions, two of them being on our executive board. I served as the VP of Finance managing the chapter budget of $100,000+, bills, fines, and managing the chapter’s purchases. My position as VP of Chapter Development focused on the bond between members and retention, where I achieved over a 99% retention rate. I grew to love the experience of bringing others together and watching the support and empowerment from a group of women.

In the summer of 2020, I founded the Ball State Her Campus chapter. While serving in the 2020-2021 school year as the President our chapter for the #1 online magazine for college women achieved a high rank as a chapter and have expanded to include a design/ multimedia team working alongside the writers. I managed the organization of the new chapter and the communication with headquarters.
